Analects 9:3

Analects 9:3
The Master said “The linen cap is prescribed by the rules of propriety, but nowadays they use a silk one. It is economical, and I will go along with the consensus. Bowing below the hall is prescribed by the rules of propriety, but that is presumptuous. So even I differ from the consensus, I will bow below the hall.”

I can interpret this Analects as following to the tradition is really important despite to what others will say or to what the modern world is doing because you are not doing the tradition for the good of the people but for the good of yourself and for the good of the event, things, or person whom you offer the traditional doings. Following the old tradition will not make you as a less person but rather it will make you as a whole person because tradition represents who you are and there will be no harm in following such tradition. I will give a clear example from what I have understood from the Analects, in the celebration of the opening or the beginning of the holy month of Ramadhan, a Muslim is required to take a  bath and perform a ablution before praying for the beginning of Ramadhan and after the sighting of the moon that indicates the start of the celebration, but in some other Muslim families, their tradition is to apply a portion of coconut water in taking a bath but this tradition is not practiced by every Muslim but it is practiced by some Muslim families. Following this tradition will not make you a less Muslim nor will make you as a more Muslim but it is a tradition that is followed by some Muslim families, you should follow it and perform it even it is not common to everyone but because it is the tradition of your family.
