Analects 13:18
The Duke of She told Confucius:
“In my land, there are righteous men. If a father steals a sheep, the son will
testify against him.”
Confucius said, “The righteous
men in my land are different from this. The father conceals the wrong of his
son, and the son conceals the wrong of his father. This is the correct way!
I am really confused whether the
Duke of She is right about his statement or Confucius statement is right, I am
confused because I believe that a father should always correct what the wrong
thing that the son has done and do not consent him about the wrong doings but
as Confucius said, a father should conceal the wrong of his son and vice versa.
I partly believe about what Confucius said because as part of the family,
father should always protect his son and family is always a family no matter
what but I believe that the statement of Confucius means that a father conceal
the wrong doing of son and vice versa but after concealing the wrong doing, a
father must always correct his son about the wrong thing that the son has done
for the son not to repeat what he has done.
